October is for celebrating Halloween after all, scary things that go bump at night, costumes, ghosts and yes, jack-o-lanterns; like thousands of jack-o-lanterns designed by professional artists and sure to delight.

Enjoy the Rise of the Jack-O-Lanterns this October at Descanso Gardens in Flintridge.  Every Thursday through Sunday from 6:30pm to 9:30pm (some days 10:30) stroll the gardens after dark and view over 5,000 lit pumpkins while listening to original music.  Tickets are $28 for adults and $24 for children 3 to 18.  If you haven’t been to Rise of the Jack-O-Lanterns before, it is an October must visit that will soon become an annual tradition.

Every October the LA zoo transforms to Boo at the Zoo with super natural delights, a graveyard safari, spooky caves, live music, pumpkin carving and costume contests.  Kids are invited to dress in costumes for a great family fun way to spend a weekend day.

Alright so maybe you aren’t a lover of all things scary and spooky, but you have to be a lover of craft beer, right?  Burbank Beer Festival and Fall Street Fair is back this October 17^th in nearby Burbank.   Featuring over 85 brews, live music and vendors showcasing local art, head down to Burbank this Saturday from noon to 7:30pm for a day of fun.  Get more details online.

So ghosts and beer aren’t your thing, what about brunch?  Canoga Park serves up some of the best brunches in the area.  Check out these restaurants in Canoga Park serving brunch this weekend.

The Cheese Factory on Topanga Canyon Boulevard serves up a great Sunday brunch with specialties like bruleed French toast, crab hash, baja chicken hash and bloody mary’s and mimosas.

Follow Your Heart Natural Foods on Sherman Way offers healthy breakfast/brunch options both Saturday and Sunday starting at 8am.  After brunch stop by their store to bring that flavor home.

I can’t believe that we have struck out with frights, brews and brunch, but if we have then how about head over to Casey’s Tavern either Friday or Saturday night.  This lively local bar is a fun way to spend the night with friends.
